Optimum conditions for operating a radio isotopic osmium/ iridium-191 m generator for medical use are achieved by using an eluant soln. consisting of physiological liq. which is acidified and has an addn. of an alkali iodide. - Also claimed are (i) the support on which the precursor element is fixed is a thermally pretreated active carbon; (ii) the iridium-191 m is extracted from the generator by means of physiological liq. (9% NaCl) acidified to pH 0-5 and contg. 0.1-0.5 g/l of an alkali iodide such as KI; (iii) the active carbon is thermally treated in an oven at 800 deg.C under an inert atmos. for 2-3 hrs.; (iv) the column of the generator contains ca. 0.7 g of the thermally pretreated carbon.
