A soln. of a sulphonated polyarylethersulphone of formula (I) in a solvent mixt. is claimed, where the mixt. contains at least 3 components each of which is a non-solvent or poor solvent for (I) and which are a liq. or a low melting solid (a) one contg. one hydroxy gp. and having a delta-H with a value of 8; (b) having a delta-D of 8 and a delta-P of max. 3; and (c) having a delta-P of 8.5 and a delta H of max.3. the solvent mixt. forming a single liq. phase and none of the components reacts or complexes with anoth of the components or with (I) Ph = phenylene residue where some are sulphonated n = 1 or 2 and the value can differ along the polymer chain. -(PhO)n-PhSO2-(I).
