The prods. are obtd. from crude oil middle fractions by first hydrogenating in the presence of a cobalt catalyst and treating the hydrogenated fractions with stripper gas before reforming on a fixed bed.The olefin type cpds. of the reformed prod. are satd. on a noble metal catalyst, the aromatics in the prod. so obtd. are extracted with tetraethylene-glycol, the refined prod. is subsequently washed with water in two stages, allowed to settle and hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst contg. 0.3-0.8 wt.% platinum which has been promoted with 0.5-1.0 wt.% halogen. Pure n-hexane and/or special petrols are finally sepd. from the hydrogenated prod..
