The floating boom comprises a flexible structure forming a barrier and provided with transverse stiffeners to which are secured floats for supporting the structure in a substantially vertical position in the water. The stiffeners are so designed as to bend resiliently at their lower part under the action of water currents of a sufficient velocity, without causing any substantial change in the inclination of the remainder of the boom in the water. The stiffeners may be preformed with a curve in their lower parts when viewed in end elevation.
