Process for stripping dissolved gas from a liq. uses a column (21) contg. packed beds through which the liq. is passed in counter-flow with a circulating (32,33) gas flow (24) whilst liq. leaving the column is used for pre-heating the liq. to be treated. Before entering the stripping bed (29), the liq. is passed, in counterflow to the gas (24), through a first additional bed (22) under conditions such that no gas is stripped therein and only heat transfer takes place (from gas to liq.). After passing through the stripping bed (29), the stripped liq. passes through a second additional bed (30) in counterflow with the gas (24) leaving the bed (22). In the bed (30) heat is transferred from the liq. to the gas (24).
