Method is intended for producing a compacted concrete pre-stressing cable (11) by cabling steel strands (13, 14) followed by plastic deformation to reduce the overall cable dia.. After cabling, plastic deformation is produced largely in directions at right angles to the cable axis such that the total cross-sectional steel area after deformation substantially equals that before deformation. Deformation is pref. effected by hammering whereby cabling and subsequent hammering are carried out in one operation. Deformation may be carried out cold or hot, in the latter case preferably combined with heat treatment at around 400 deg. C.
