The installation for purifying effluent water by the active sludge process comprises an open oblong tank with longitudinal central partition (5) defining a closed circuit of two parallel passages connected (4) at opposite ends. A rotor (6) on a vertical shaft arranged near at least one of the connections (4) provides aeration and moves the effluent through the circuit.
