The mechanism is intended for producing pellets from liq.-contg. paste-like organic and/or inorganic material by pressing this through openings to form pellets of cohering material. The openings are formed by the spaces between the links of an endless chain which passes around at least two cylinders whereby at least one cylinder is driven and provided with teeth to engage the openings. The cylinders and at least part of the chain are arranged in a housing provided with an inlet for the material to the space within the chain which is driven by the cylinder. The teeth on this cylinder extrude the material through the chain openings to form pellets discharged outside the chain.
