2,6-Dihydroxycineole and inters - as choleretic agents prepd. in pure form from pure pinol

Title cpds. are prepd. from sobrerol by (a) hydrogenated to form pinol (II) which can be either treated with a peracid to an epoxy pinol and hydrolysed to the 2,6-dihydroxycineol (I) prod. or (II) can be brominated and the obtd. 2,6-di-bromopineole (III) treated with sodium acetate to form the 2,6-diacetoxycineole and then with sulphuric acid to form (I). Medicaments contain (I), (II) or (III) in unit doses contg. 100-200mg. active ingredient. The reaction gives a high yield of prods. in a pure form.
