MOULDING TORIC CONTACT LENSES:AXES OF MOULD HALVES AT AN ANGLE TO EACH OTHER

Molded toric contacted lenses which exhibit cylinder power and prism ballast are manufactured in a mold assembly comprised of a female mold portion having a cylindrical support segment (12) and a concave toric optical molding surface (16) set internally therein and a male mold portion (2) having a cylindrical support segment (7) and a convex optical molding surface (10) at one end thereof. Contact lens-form material is charged on to molding surface (16) and the mold assembly is closed by positioning male mold portion (2) in touching and lens-forming relationship with female mold portion to form the angle theta between the two principal axes of curvature of the said molding surfaces. Polymerization of the lens-forming material results in a molded toric contact lens.
