New surface-active cpds. have the formula (in which R1 and R2 independently denote mono-, di- or trialkylaryls contg. 14-46C pref. 20-38C, esp. 23-32C, R3 and R3 independently denote CH3, C2H5 or C2H4OH pref. both denote CH3, n1 and n2 independently denote 4-40, pref. 6-30 esp. 11-25, and X is an anion). These cpd. are used for treatment of cellulose or paper, pref. before or during the dehydration of drying, in an amt. of 0.02-3% pref. 0.1-1.5% (w.r.t. the weight of cellulose) for sanitary application, in which mechanical strength should be reduced and softness increased, and the prod. should have hydrophobic properties.
