Windows are claimed having, in the wavelength region 400-470nm; a light transmission coefft., constant within +10% the valve of which is 35-60% of the mean valve of the same coefft. in the wavelength range 600-700nm. The glass pref. has a luminous transmission factor (Y) of 45-60%, a total solar energy transmission factor of 35-55% a dominant wavelength of 578-583 nm and an excitation purity of 20-35(25)%. The solar energy transmission factor of the glass in the UV is 1/3 of that in the visible region. The window is made of glass of compsn. 68-72% SiO2, 0-4% Al2O3, 11-15% Na2O, 0-3% K2O, 7-12% CaO, 1-5% MgO, 0.2-0.8% Fe2O3, 0.002-0.01% Se, 0.001% CoO, 0.01% Cr2O3 and 0.02% Ni. Used as brown tinted windows for buildings for housing, offices or shops. Reduction of eye fatigue and heat transmission is achieved without sensible altering colour vison.
