A device for mfr. of tyres has a tyre build-up drum, a mould, and a tyre rim mounting that is axially movable in or out of contact with each end of the mould and has a dia. such that a rim may be arranged on the mounting and surrounds the same when the mounting is retracted from the mould. A rim fixing mechanism surrounds each mounting and may be displaced wrt. the mounting. Its frontal face has an inner dia. greater than that of a rim to be applied to the mounting. This face lies in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the mould. A rim may be applied to each mounting when the same is retracted from the mould. The mounting may be moved in contact with the associated end of the mould to position the rim from the mounting to a pre-determined point along the mould whilst the rim is being held close to the frontal face of the fixing mechanism. The mould is a flat form of that type where the rims are guided between the ends of the mould whist the latter is surrounded by tyre plies which form an essentially uninterrupted cylindrical surface. A magnet arrangement holds each rim close to the frontal face of the fixing mechanism. The rims may be applied to the flat mould with high precision and accuracy.
