In a ring spinning equipment, the traveller is given a particular shape, and is fixed by a keyed mounting into the rotary section of the spinning ring. One section of the traveller has a surface designed to graze the fixed part of the spinning ring. A further section, displaced from the grazing section, is shaped and arranged for the yarn to be wound to pass through it. The design gives an adequate braking action between the rotary and fixed sections of the assembly, so that the rotary section turns at a slower rate than the spindle, but holds the yarn clear so that it is unaffected by any friction heat which can develop.
