Appts. for making articles by powder metallurgy includes a flexible container to hold the metal powder which is immersed in a heat transfer medium which becomes ductile at the temp. of the process, contained in an outer vessel. The inner container is filled and sealed, placed in the heat transfer medium and the outer container sealed. Heat is applied, and then press. applied to the outer vessel. The powder undergoes a recrystallisation at the heating temp. The heat transfer medium undergoes a phase change from solid to liq. at a temp. which is at most 167 degrees C below the temp. to which the appts. is heated.
