Selective sepn. of Pb and Zn from oxidised mineral comprises treating the Pb/Zn mineral with a complexing agent, then selectivety leaching out the Pb and finally extraction of the Zn in organic phase. The leaching is effected with a caustic medium at a pH which permits dissoln. of Pb but not Zn ions. The complexing agent is esp. an organic cpds. which has a specific chelating or sequestering activity in relation to Zn and makes the probe hydrophobic during the organic stage of the process. Higher yields are obtainable than in prior art.
