Precersion torques are applied to the turning gyro wheel rotor of a gyroscope by a pilot motor. These torques are controlled by the relative position of the motor and rotor. A stator (9) and rotor (8) of a motor cause the shaft (6) of the gyroscope to rotate rapidly to turn the gyro wheel rotor (2). A pilot torque is applied by a magnetic ring (10) which is shaped to enclose the drum (4) of the rotor (2). An electric current in a winding (12) causes the electromagnetic field in a gap (11) to apply the torque. This eliminates transitory oscillations of the gyroscope.
