The winding mechanism is suitable for winding on a number of strands. The strands are allowed to engage into an archimedean screw in order to wind the strands on an axle. The carriage, is synchronised with the rotation of the axle. The synchronism is effected by electrical impulses initiated in a predetermined sequence. The distance covered by the carriage is greater than the width of the coil when travelling in either direction. The strands are would in layers which have to be supported and anchored into place, so as to prevent the movement of the strands towards the outside of the coil.
