A phenolic chelate resin comprising the three-dimensional product obtained by cross-linking a phenolic compound represented by the general formula (I): IMAGE (I) (wherein M is an alkali metal atom, an ammonium group, or a hydrogen atom, and R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, each is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms) with a phenol and an aldehyde. The phenolic chelate resin selectively adsorbs ferric ion and/or cupric ion in an acidic aqueous solution at a pH of 3 and less.
