The refuse container has built-in press, driven by pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder. The container is divided by a transverse wall (16), at a distance from the container floor (11); into a throw-in chamber (18) and a press chamber (17). The throw-in chamber contains a press ram (23) moving into the press chamber below the dividing wall. The ram is retracted into a protective housing (22) within the throw-in chamber. The rear of the ram has facing body (24), to prevent refuse from falling behind the ram and into the protective housing. The housing is positioned above an inclined wall (13) of the container and its top forms an inclined sliding surface in the throw-in chamber itself.
