Perfecting a subassembly of a vehicle headlamp which is formed from a parabolic mirror and a lens

In a subassembly of a metallic parabolic mirror and of a lens in a vehicle headlamp, the appearance of rust on free and exposed parts of the parabolic mirror is prevented by constructing the actual parabolic mirror at its larger opening as a simple flange which is inserted into a plastic mounting ring which has previously been provided with a primary layer of an adhesive. After application of the final layer of adhesive to this flange, the lens is further inserted into the mounting ring. Upon the insertion of the first and second elements, the adhesive melts and decisively seals the existing gaps to the outside and downwards. This sealing is monitored visually. Terminal lugs are integrally formed for the purpose of suspending the headlamp relative to the plastic mounting ring.
