Prepn. of chemically pure therapeutic agent - i.e. 1(4-fluorophenyl)methyl)- N-(1-(2-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethyl)-4-piperidinyl) 1H-benzimidazol-2-amine

Prepn. of 1((4-gluorophenyl)methyl)- N-(1-(2-(4-methoxy phenyl) ethyl)- 4-p-peridinyl)- 1.4 benzimidazo-2-amine (I) comprises reacting N-(1-(2-(4-methoxy phenyl)ethyl)-4-piperidinyl) - 1H benzimidazol-2-amine with slightly excess 1-chloromethyl-4-fluoro benzene in a basic medium and inert solvent. The desired prod. is isolated and crystallised from organic solvent such as methylisobutyl acetone, 2.2' oxo-bis-propane etc to give chemically pure (I). Basic medium is alkali metal carbonate or hydroxide. The organic solvent is isopropanol, methylisobutylacetone, toluene etc. The reaction temp. is 50-110 deg.C.
