Rheological grade sepiolite prodn. - by dispersion in water and flocculating

The process consists of (a) extracting a mineral contg. over 50% sepiolite; (b) grinding the mineral to below 2 mm. size; (c) dispersing in water to give 5-25% solids content; (d) sepg. impurities and undispersed mineral by centrifuging (3) flocculating the liq. with 0.5-3% flocculating system based on the sepiolite; (f) concentrating by filtration up to 45-55% solids, (g) cutting up and drying at below 100 deg. C to a moisture content of 0-20%; and (h) dry milling to particle size of 90% below 74 microns.
