Abstract of the DisclosurePacking tubular membranes or membrane channelsfor Ion Chromatography with inert particles greatlyincreases overall suppressor efficiency. The length ofmembrane required is reduced, e.g. from 20 feet to 5feet and bandspreading is reduced from 870µl to 200µl.This significant increase in efficiency is attributedto the mixing action of the packing on the flow streamwhich results in convective radial transport much morerapid than the diffusion controlled transport observedin unpacked membranes. The technique is also describedfor developing more efficient liquid chromatographicpost-column reactors for adding reagent to the columneffluent to increase detection sensitivity.
