NONINVASIVE CONTINUOUS CARDIAC OUTPUT MONITORAbstractThe invention provides apparatus and methods for usingthe electrical bioimpedance measurements to monitorparameters associated with blood flow in a segment of bodytissue. The invention eliminates the effect of respira-tion from the thoracic impedance as a function of time toprovide a signal indicative of pulsatile thoracic imped-ance changes continuously. The pulsatile thoracic imped-ance signal is processed to produce signals indicative ofthe ventricular ejection time and the maximum rate ofchange of pulsatile thoracic impedance which are used in amicroprocessor to calculate the volume of blood pumped perstroke according to an improved systolic upstrokeequation.
