DISPOSABLE AUTOTRANSFUSION DEVICEABSTRACTAn autotransfusion device for collecting bloodfrom a pool in a patient and for subsequently returningthe collected blood to the circulatory system of thepatient is disclosed. The device includes a liquid collec-tion chamber having a movable wall and a stationary wall.The liquid collection chamber is connected to the poolof blood by an aspirator and to a suction source to drawthe blood into the collection chamber. After the collec-tion chamber is filled to the capacity desired, a com-pressed spring is released to urge the movable wall towardthe stationary wall. The blood is forced out of the collec-tion chamber by the compressed spring and back to thecirculatory system of the patient.
