EMULSION POLYMERIZATION PROCESS WITH LOW EMULSIFIER CONCENTRATION

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThere is disclosed a process for producingvinyl dispersion resins by means of the emulsion poly-merization technique. The vinyl monomer or monomersare reacted in an aqueous medium using a water-insolublefree radical yielding catalyst, an emulsifier oremulsifier system and a small amount of water-insolubleplasticizer whereby the amount of emulsifier(s) necessaryis greatly reduced. All the reaction ingredients arethoroughly mixed and homogenized prior to polymerizationat a temperature of about 30°C to about 70°C. Thepaste resins so produced have improved properties, suchas foam properties, and polymer buildup in the reactoris reduced.
