Method of Producing Columnar CrystalSuperalloy Material With Controlled OrientationAbstractA processing sequence is described for producingspecific controlled elongated oriented crystalstructures in nickel base superalloys. The method isperformed in the solid state. Superalloy material isprovided in a dense workable form. The material is coldstraight rolled and cold cross rolled with intermediateanneals. This sequence produces a particular texture orpreferred orientation in the rolled article. Thistextured article is then directionally recrystallized toproduce the desired final microstructure comprised ofaligned elongated grains of a particular controllableorientation.
