SEPARATION OF MOLYBDENITE FROM ITS MIXTUREWITH OTHER SULFIDE ORESAbstractDithiocarbonic acid, trithiocarbonic acid, watersoluble salts of dithiocarbonic acid or trithiocarbonic acidor mixtures thereof when contacted with a mixed sulfide oreeffectively depresses copper and iron sulfides therebypermitting molybdenite to be recovered by froth flotation.In copper concentrates produced by a flotation process, theorganic collector reagents adhering to the surface of thecopper and iron sulfides may be, and preferably are, strippedby conventional physical or chemical means prior to contacting the copper concentrate with the trithiocarbonate depres-sants of the invention. However, the trithiocarbonates ofthe invention have been found to be effective depressants ofcopper and iron sulfides in concentrates which are notstripped prior to treatment with the depressant.
