A METHOD OF DETERMINING THE CLOTTING TIME OF BLOOD AND PARTICULATE REAGENTS THEREFOR

A method of determining the clotting time of blood, particularly whole blood, is presented, in which the clotting time is deliberately lengthened, by dilution and spreading, to separate fibrin web formation from clot formation, and the time of fibrin web formation is used as the end point. The fibrin web can be visually enhanced by use of a particulate reagent, particularly of latex particles, and particularly a bidisperse mixture, whereby the latex particles agglutinate with the fibrin strands and make the time of fibrin web formation easier to measure.
