Method for providing percutaneous communication with the renal or ureteral cavities

A method for providing percutaneous communication with the renal (15) or ureteral (14) cavities of a body. A catheter assembly (11) comprising a catheter (16) having a movable, controllable distal tip and a stylet (17) received within the catheter is directed into the ureteral passageway and therethrough to a desired location in the ureteral or renal cavity. The distal tip is positioned to direct the stylet against the adjoining tissue (18) and the stylet is forced outwardly of the catheter and through the tissue to the exterior of the body.
