A process for the preparation of 1,4-bis- [3- (3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzoyloxy) propyl] diazepane is specified, which consists in first treating 3-amino-propanol with acrylonitrile and then in aqueous solution with formaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid or with formaldehyde and an alkali metal cyanide in the presence of alkali hydrogen sulfite to cyanomethyl- (2-cyano-ethyl) - (3-hydroxypropyl) amine, the reaction product thus obtained in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and ammonia 1- (3-Hydroxy-propyl) -1,4-diazepane is hydrogenated and the latter compound is reacted, for example, with 3-halopropanol or with allyl alcohol and two 3,4-5-trimethoxy-benzoyl radicals are introduced into the reaction product thus obtained by esterification of the two hydroxyl groups .
