High tenacity, high modulus (modulus) fibers or films and a method of manufacturing

Stretched polymeric material of high tensile strength and modulus is obtd. by shaping a soln. of synthetic polymer of mol. wt. at least 300,000; cooling to produce a gel-like filament or film; and stretching it at high stretch ratio. The improvement in this gel- shaping method lies in the prepn. of the polymer soln. from either gel-like globules of the polymer contg. occluded solvent, or fine powders having average particle wt. not more than 5x10 power-5mg per particle.
