The process uses two or more parallel low pressure pumps, to evacuate a container in a brake force intensifier to a predetermined pressure level. After this level has been achieved, at least two pumps are switched in series by a pressure control valve (7). The container (3) is connected to the suction pipe (4) of a pump (1). The suction pipe (6) of a second pump (2) may be connected by a 3/2 way valve (7), via a conduit (5) and a back pressure valve (12) to the container, or alternatively to the pressure pipe (9) of the first pump (1).
