The control system for a toy d.c or a.c railway uses an electronic relay circuit to change-over from one operation to another without mechanical switching devices. This has the motor (1) and two field coils (2,3) connected to respective triacs (4,5) controlled by an integrated circuit (6). Those components are connected to the two supply connections (7,8) and to a supply unit (A) with several diodes (9) to rectify the current and to respond to its changes. The normal supply voltage of 0 to 16V is charged to 24 volts in a cyclic manner to change the direction of travel. The system can also include lighting with the lights in parallel with the field coils. An extra coil is included for control by a programming device.
