The circuit includes electronic devices making allowances for the wt. of the mould; the inertia of the mould; and the oscillation of the mould along its axis during casting. The pref. plant includes a load cell measuring the tensile pull on the mould exerted by the rolls which draw the billet out of the mould. The load cell receives a signal from a unit to compensate for the wt. of the mould, and delivers a signal to a summing unit, which also receives a signal from a transducer measuring mould acceleration. The summing unit is connected in an electronic comparator circuit which records the force pulling the billet out of the mould. For example, in the continuous casting of steel, so excessive pulling forces, which could produce cracks in the billet, are avoided.
