The invention relates to a fan installation having a special rotor and a suction chamber, which, given a variable overall volume flow, keeps the individual volume flows of the suction intakes nearly constant. This is a result of the nearly constant relationship of the suction-pressure characteristic curve of the novel fan rotor as a function of volume flow. The expensive control devices otherwise required for previous fans to achieve this objective can be completely dispensed with. A particular profile of the rotor disc improves efficiency. Using said installation reduces investment and maintenance costs. In the case of part-load operation, operational costs are also reduced. The installation described can be used advantageously, for example in the field of building services for the ventilation of rooms, including those cases where central heat recovery is to be provided. The installation can be used advantageously in all areas where it is important to keep the individual volume flows nearly constant, while the overall volume flow may vary considerably. The drawing shows the prototype of such an installation, on which the practical experiments were also carried out, and also shows a diagrammatic drawing of one of the rotors developed to be run at medium speed.
