The invention relates to a cooling device for cooling hot-rolled material, in a cooling basin filled with cooling liquid. The upper basin walls are each formed from a single cooling-liquid nozzle, running over the entire basin width, and, in the region of the rolling-material entry gap and rolling-material exit gap, in each case from the cooling-liquid jet emerging from the particular nozzle opening. As a result, it is possible to adapt the rolling-material entry gap and rolling-material exit gap to any desired thickness and width of the hot-rolled material, the water-and cooling-liquid losses, which are otherwise customary, being reduced over a minimum, even though the hot-rolled material is fully immersed into the cooling liquid.
