A method and device for identifying an object and representing it, independently of distance, in the same size for a predetermined period of time, using optics and a multi-element detector. The optics have a fixed focal length. A predetermined number of detectors are combined as a function of the distance between the object and the optics in such a manner that the object is represented and can be evaluated by means of a limited number of pixels, independently of distance.
