Method, plant and appliances for the simultaneous processing of refuse and sewage sludge, using a cylindrical screen for prescreening the refuse into two fractions: I. undersize, less than approximately 200 mm II. screen overflow, greater than approximately 200 mm, I. being mixed together with sewage sludge in a ball mill, comminuted and homogenised, then passing through a magnetic separator for separating the iron parts, then being subjected to a combined ganged air and solar heat drying process and then being carbonised at a controllable temperature, which is maintained very evenly over the whole carbonisation reactor, and after carbonisation, in a condensation stage, mainly water, liquid hydrocarbons (oil) and incondensable carbonisation gas being precipitated, the remaining carbonisation gas being burnt in order to heat the reactor; while II., after removal of iron and optional removal of the plastic sheeting, optionally together with other biomass waste such as wood, bark or straw, is also comminuted in a ball mill, the comminuted material is at least partially mixed together with the hot low-temperature coke of fraction I. and is compression-moulded into fuel briquettes, while excess amounts of said comminuted material are processed into particle board, preferably using hydraulic binders (gypsum, cement, etc.).
