In order to be able to transmit up to two digital multiplex signals DS1 and DS1' in each case at a bit rate of 992 kbit/s, in each case containing a high-quality digitised and error-protected stereo sound signal with associated additional information and their own frame alignment words, via a DSV2 (formerly PCM30), the odd-numbered time channels 1, 3, ..., 31 are occupied according to the invention with the first multiplex signal DS1 and the even-numbered time channels 2, 4, ..., 30 are occupied with the second multiplex signal DS1', the first multiplex signal DS1 occupying only 6 bits in the time channels 1 and 31 and the second multiplex signal DS1' also occupying the respective remaining 2 bits in these time channels 1 and 31.
