In the method for sealing a metallic cask (1) for accommodating radioactive materials, having a metallic sealing cover (2), in which the sealing cover is connected to the cask by means of a molten pourable compound at mutually assigned joining surfaces (1a, 2a), which is filled into a pouring space determined at least partially by the sealing cover and cask, it is provided for the purpose of constructing a welded connection between the pourable compound and the joining surfaces that the pouring space (3) is filled so that the joining surfaces are covered by the pourable compound, and a throughflow of the pourable compound (4a, 4b) is set up until the joining surfaces are heated to the welding temperature of the materials used for the cover and cask, and that thereafter the throughflow is interrupted while maintaining a prescribed filling level in the pouring space.
