The device has a dowel guide which opens out in an outlet opening, through which guide the dowels, which are supplied individually by means of a ram, are driven out. The device also has a means for supplying glue to the dowel holes in each case before a dowel is driven in, which means exhibits a glue nozzle which, when the glue is being supplied, is held in an operating position projecting into the area of the outlet opening of the dowel guide, and which, before the respective driving-in of a dowel, can be moved into a position which is remote from the dowel guide. A metering means for metering the amount of glue to be supplied to one dowel hole in each case is positioned upstream of said glue nozzle.
