The device possesses a cutting knife (1) in the form of a regular polygon with an odd number of edges and is mounted rotatably on a slide (2) which drives it for the cutting and which causes it to run past grindstones (4, 5). The device possesses, furthermore, means (7, 9, 14) for temporarily retaining the cutting knife (1) in its respective angular positions for working and for grinding, so that one of its cutting edges is parallel to the direction of displacement of the slide, and an arrangement (21, 23, 24) for the angular advance of the cutting knife.
