An article having a thermally-elasticizable strip along a marginal portion is elasticized by directing heated air towards the strip at at least two different angles relative to the plane of the strip and at a velocity sufficient to cause oscillation of the marginal portion bearing the thermally-elasticizable strip; these conditions are maintained for a dwell time long enough for elasticization when cooled to ambient conditions. Apparatus is disclosed which includes a heating chamber through which conveyor means (50, 51) conveys a stack of articles eg. diapers (21). Means for directing the heated air are louvers (60) arranged in three banks (63, 64, 65). Also included are means for circulating the heated air in the chamber. IMAGE
