Magnetic head for fine matrix paper printing - uses tint transfer and has different conductivity sheets varying current proximity

The magnetic recording device is for printing characters on paper and has a magnetic tape moving past a recording head and a tinting unit which places tinting agent on the magnetised parts of the tape for transfer onto the paper. It is designed for fine matrix printing of small characters where matrix elements must be close together without the usual expense of producing the recording head. The head contains a group of recording zones placed across the tape path containing a thin conducting nickel sheet nearest the tape. A thicker copper sheet on the remote side of the nickel sheet has narrow gaps at the recording zones. Current flowing in the copper sheet is too far from the tape to magnetise it, but at the recording zone cut-outs the current flows close enough to magnetise a correspondingly small part of the tape.
