Flat PVC article, e.g. a sheet or plate, is prepd. by calendering a PVC compsn. contg. a reactive plasticiser, a photosensitiser, a stabiliser and a polymerisation inhibitor and then irradiating with U.V. Prod. has excellent heat resistance and mechanical strength as well as a uniform and transparent texture. It does not burn when contacted with a live cigarette and is suitable for wall and floor cladding, imitation leather, gaskets, electrical insulation, pipes, decorative plywood and for lining steel sheets.
