Aqueous compositions for the electrolytic deposition of nickel deposits substantially black, adherents and uniform, on a conductive substrate contain an aqueous solution at a ph ranging from about 8 to approximately 12, containing nickel ions in combination with an amount effective 27 of a group chosen from amines which are soluble in the bath, in order to obtain deposits of nickel black; the aqueous solution can contain, in addition, further agents, reinforcing the blackening of the salts of conductivity and wetting agents, of the type conventionally employees in solutions of nickel.
