Compsn. partic. for disinfecting mfg. plant in the food industry contains formaldehyde in amts. such that the formaldehyde concn. is below that required for bactericidal action. The formaldehyde stabilises the soln. keeping it acid, it inhibits glutaric aldehyde polymerisation when the pH is alkaline in use, and gives a synergistic effect so that the amt. of glutanic aldehyde used may be reduced.
