Wet scrubber to purify boiler flue gas and diesel exhaust fumes - has outlet pipe with baffled entry in casing spray zone

Wet scrubber for purifying flue gases from boilers, exhaust fumes from diesel engines, etc. comprises a casing which has an inlet for fumes and which contains water sprays to wash the fumes. An outlet pipe extends into the casing at right angles to the axis of the inlet passage. The outlet pipe has an entry aperture communicating with the interior of the casing chamber. The entry aperture is in the part of the pipe wall nearest to the casing inlet passage. A baffle plate is interposed between inlet passage and entry aperture so that fumes from the passage are diverted right round the outlet pipe to find the entry aperture. Pref. the casing contains several sprays positioned around the outlet pipe. Pref. the baffle is inclined to the horizontal to drain towards a slot which returns water for recycling to the sprays. The outlet pipe pref. contains a helical blade coaxial with the pipe of external dia. approx. equal to the bore dia. of the pipe. Used in redn. of atmospheric pollution by scrubbing exhaust fumes from boilers, diesel engines, etc. The construction of this scrubber is simple, compact and inexpensive. The assembly involves few components so spares to be stocked are few.
